How Something Beautiful Remains helped Sue navigate her grief

I lost my youngest son…

“…in late September 2017 in very sudden and tragic circumstances. It was the October long weekend and I was going to see someone from a traditional funeral home on Tuesday when someone suggested I talk to Caryn and I am so glad I did.”

Sue was relieved not to have to visit the sterile office of a traditional funeral home during the height of her grief.

Caryn came to my home; I didn’t have to make the plans in a sterile office. She sat and talked to us about my boy and throughout the afternoon she made suggestions that would make the service personalised and a celebration of his life.

Caryn arranged the celebrant for us who we have used on many occasions since. We have also had Caryn arrange some other funerals since then and she always does a wonderful job.”

We wanted a smoking ceremony…

Sue found that none of her requests were too much trouble for the team at Something Beautiful Remains.

“We wanted a smoking ceremony before we entered the Chapel, so Caryn put the call out to all her contacts to arrange an Aboriginal elder to perform this, which wasn’t easy to arrange.

She managed to find the elder only a few days before the funeral but she was not going to give up until she found him for us.”

Sue was so grateful for Caryn’s persistence to ensure this important ceremony could go ahead.

Caryn and Phil arranged everything from start to finish…

“They even arranged a special event in Indigenous colours for my son’s children and nieces and nephews. It was a very hot day and they handed out fans and bottles of water.

If I could sum it up in one message, I would say that they make sure your funeral service is totally personal.

There is nothing ‘production line’ about the send-offs they plan.”

We have used Something Beautiful Remains again since…

After experiencing the difference a personalised funeral service can offer to a grieving family, Sue has used the services of Something Beautiful Remains again.

“Since 2017 Something Beautiful Remains has conducted my ex-husband’s funeral and my partner’s stepfather’s funeral and made those two just as personal.”
